Seabourn Venture Ship Review

I recently had the pleasure of sailing from Tromsø to Longyearbyen around the Svalbard archipelago in the high Arctic on the Seabourn Venture. What a way to travel! The gentle hum of the ship cutting through Arctic waters and the soft murmur of excited conversations in elegant lounges created the perfect backdrop for this extraordinary journey.

The Seabourn Venture (and her sister the Seabourn Pursuit) isn't just a ship—it's the ultimate blend of adventure and indulgence. I've experienced many remarkable vessels, but the Seabourn Venture sets a new standard for luxury expedition cruising. This ship is designed for those who want to explore the hidden gems of the world without sacrificing a single comfort, where every detail is thoughtfully considered.

If you're a discerning traveler who appreciates fine craftsmanship, refined elegance, intuitive service, and access to the world's most remote destinations, the Seabourn Venture was created with you in mind.

First Impressions: Stepping Aboard a Luxury Expedition Ship

From the moment you step aboard, it's clear that this ship has been thoughtfully designed to embody Seabourn's sophisticated style while embracing the rugged spirit of true exploration. Rich colours and lush finishes such as marble and leather welcome guests into comfort, while curated art collections invite exploration throughout the ship. You can hear the soft clink of crystal glasses and warm laughter that creates an atmosphere of refined conviviality.

The Seabourn Venture has been carefully designed with spaces that allow its 264 guests to socialize and mingle easily, or find a quiet corner to cozy up with a good book, without feeling crowded and with constant connection to the incredible landscapes outside.

Social Spaces: Where Arctic Adventure Stories Come to Life

The magic of Seabourn Venture's social atmosphere comes alive in thoughtfully designed spaces that encourage both animated conversation and peaceful contemplation. Each lounge has its own personality and purpose, creating natural gathering spots throughout the ship.

The Expedition Lounge - Heart of the Ship

The Expedition Lounge on Deck 4 is the social heart of the ship, where guests gather around the inviting fireplace to share stories after a day of exploration. You'll find yourself drawn to the comfortable seating arrangements, surrounded by the gentle flicker of flames and the excited buzz of fellow travelers recounting their zodiac adventures. The space features curated displays showcasing expedition equipment and artifacts that spark fascinating conversations. Some evenings, this same space transforms into a dance floor for a bit of lively fun, while the resident bartender hosts excellent whisky tasting experiences.

The Bow Lounge - Prime Wildlife Viewing

At the front of the ship, the Bow Lounge offers the perfect spot for viewing wildlife and scenic landscapes, especially in polar regions. There's something magical about standing here as excited whispers of "polar bear sighting!" ripple through the crowd. The connected deck space provides prime photo opportunities, while touchscreens display real-time navigational information for guests who want to learn more about the ship's route and surroundings. A self-serve refreshment area keeps you comfortable with hot chocolate, delicious baked goods, and hearty soups and sandwiches.

The Constellation Lounge - My Afternoon Haven

The Constellation Lounge on Deck 9 became my favourite retreat in the afternoons after morning zodiac excursions. With sweeping 270-degree views, it's ideal for panoramic viewing, especially during scenic cruising. The gentle hum of conversation creates a peaceful backdrop as guests point out icebergs and share photography tips over afternoon cocktails. In the evening, it transforms into a sophisticated gathering space for cocktails and entertainment.

Additional Social Spaces Throughout the Ship

The Discovery Center serves as a comfortable theatre area on Deck 4, functioning as the hub for enrichment activities. Here, Seabourn's expedition team hosts fascinating lectures and briefings, while the Cruise Director showcases their musical talents.

The Club Lounge on deck 5 comes alive in late afternoons and evenings with its cocktail bar, live music performances, and spirited trivia games. The music trivia hosted by the Cruise Director was particularly entertaining. A wonderful new feature is the sushi bar, which serves exceptional and creative plates.

Seabourn Square combines elements of a luxury lounge, well-stocked library, coffee bar, and Guest Services into one welcoming hub. The specialty coffee bar serves freshly roasted beans, artisanal gelato, and sweet and savoury treats throughout the day. Be sure to try the moist homestyle Grandmother's Cake—baked fresh every morning and quickly becoming a guest favourite.

Outdoor Spaces: Connecting with Arctic Landscapes

The Aft Deck Pool on Deck 5 features a heated infinity plunge pool with nearby whirlpools. Surrounded by lounge chairs and cozy seating, it's perfect for relaxing after a day of exploring or enjoying cocktails with a view. With typical Seabourn attention to detail, sunscreen is available at the bar.

The Sun Terrace on the top deck includes comfortable lounge seating and chaise lounges, offering panoramic views and a peaceful place to read or enjoy the Arctic scenery in a serene atmosphere.

Wellness and Enrichment: Caring for Body and Mind

The Fitness Centre features full panoramic windows allowing for scenic views while working out, naturally designed with high-end equipment and personal training services if desired.

The Spa & Wellness Area serves as a tranquil sanctuary with a full array of treatments inspired by natural elements and global wellness traditions, including a sauna with panoramic windows. The Fire and Ice manicure I enjoyed was exceptional.

The Photo Lab is tucked away for guests who enjoy instruction sessions from the resident photographer and videographer, with computers available for editing assistance.

Thoughtfully Designed Suite Accommodations

Luxurious Suites with Panoramic Views

Every suite on the Venture comes with a private veranda and floor-to-ceiling windows, providing expansive views of the ever-changing landscapes around you. The suites are designed to feel like your own sanctuary at sea, with walk-in wardrobes and plenty of storage, cozy throw blankets, comfortable seating areas, spacious marble bathrooms with separate soaking tubs, and mini-bars stocked to your liking.

The gentle lapping of Arctic waters against your veranda creates a natural lullaby, while the spacious marble bathrooms echo softly with the sound of running water as you soak in the deep tubs after a day of exploration. With a choice of pillows, plush mattresses and silky linens, it's incredibly comfortable for sleeping.

I particularly appreciated the thoughtful amenities like binoculars to borrow and a heated gear closet—such a practical touch for polar expeditions. Having ample space and storage in the suite for expedition clothing and life vests meant a smooth changeover process in the expedition loading area, rather than changing in crowded common areas. There's plenty of extra storage with sideboard cupboards, bedside tables with drawers, a vanity table, and numerous power outlets and USB charging ports.

Suite Options for Different Preferences

Veranda Stateroom (355 square feet) - My accommodation was very comfortable with everything needed for a wonderful expedition cruise.

Penthouse Suites (527 square feet) - Feature separated bedrooms for those wanting additional space and privacy.

Panorama Penthouse (417 square feet) - Showcase full curved glass walls that bring the Arctic landscape right into your living space.

Wintergarden Suite (over 1000 square feet) - Two-level luxury for the ultimate expedition experience.

Accessibility Excellence

There was a wheelchair-bound guest on my voyage who navigated the public areas with ease. The ship features noticeably wider doorways, fast elevators, and accessible bathrooms on several decks. In areas like The Colonnade restaurant during busier periods, the ever-attentive Seabourn crew quickly cleared the way and set up her favourite table. Her loyalty to Seabourn was recognized at a special event, clearly demonstrating how well the line accommodates guests with mobility needs.

Culinary Experiences: A World-Class Dining Journey

With a focus on freshness, exceptional preparation, quality and beautiful presentation, dining on Seabourn is always a pleasure. The diversity of offerings appeals to a wide variety of preferences, and the culinary team readily accommodates specific dietary restrictions. The sizzle of fresh ingredients in open kitchens, the aromatic blend of regional spices, and the visual artistry of beautifully plated dishes engage all your senses.

The Colonnade - Relaxed All-Day Dining

This relaxed dining venue serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, featuring an open-style kitchen where guests can witness the dedication to fresh ingredients and thoughtful presentation. The regionally inspired menu changes daily to showcase local flavours. Breakfast and lunch are buffet-style, while à la carte dinners may be themed to reflect the cultures and cuisines of the areas visited. You can choose to dine indoors or al fresco, with conversation flowing freely in both intimate indoor seating and on the outdoor terrace with panoramic Arctic views.

The Restaurant - Bespoke Fine Dining

This venue offers an exceptionally well-prepared and creative culinary experience that caters to a variety of preferences. Guests quickly learn to enjoy having certain wait staff and can request tables in specific seating sections. The open dining concept means no set dining times—you can savor each course at your own pace while sharing expedition stories with fellow travelers. While there are no formal nights on Seabourn Venture, guests feel comfortable in country club-style attire for evening dining.

Signature Experience: Caviar on the Ice

Caviar on the Ice is a beloved Seabourn signature event on polar itineraries. Guests are invited to join senior crew members and expedition staff on the pool deck to mingle and enjoy delicious canapés, including caviar served on blinis. The voyage is toasted with chilled champagne as the ship sails past incredible landscapes—the sound of champagne bottles popping mingles with excited chatter as the entire ship's community comes together.

Small Bites Throughout the Day

Small bites are available throughout the ship and day. The Bow Lounge offers self-serve beverages, soups, baked goods, and sandwiches. The Club Lounge features evening sushi service. Seabourn Square's signature barista service provides sweet and savoury offerings alongside excellent coffee.

All beverages are included throughout the voyage, with a wide selection of wines and spirits, barista-prepared coffees and teas, welcome champagne, and mini-bars stocked to suit guests' preferences. Seabourn also offers a Zero at Sea menu of six creative mocktails using premium ingredients.

Set Up for Expedition Adventures: Purpose-Built for Polar Exploration

The Seabourn Venture is purpose-built for expeditions, whether tropical coastlines or polar regions, with a reinforced polar-class hull and dedicated marine launching area. The excitement builds in the expedition area, where the sound of zippers and animated conversations create anticipation as guests prepare for zodiac adventures.

State-of-the-Art Expedition Facilities

The marine launching area features a dedicated cubby per guest for storing muck boots (provided), with comfortable benches, boot rinsing stations, and excellent wind protection. While access to the zodiacs is via a short staircase, there's also a wheelchair loading system ensuring all guests can participate.

The provided life preservers are top-of-the-line gas cylinder types that are comfortable to wear and far less bulky than foam vests, ensuring no impediment to viewing or comfort during excursions.

Arctic Expedition Gear Provided

For polar regions, Seabourn provides: • Dry bag for personal items • Warm fleece-lined toque
• Warm inner jacket • Helly Hansen waterproof outer shell • High-quality muck boots (to borrow)

Guests should plan on bringing their own waterproof overpants, base layers and gloves, though the onboard shop has an excellent selection if needed.

Adventure Options

Zodiac Excursions (Included) - Glide silently through pristine Arctic waters in small groups for intimate encounters with wildlife and ice formations.

Kayak Excursions (Additional Fee) - Paddle through the most remote waterways for an even more intimate connection with breathtaking landscapes and marine life.

There really is nothing quite like cruising or paddling into the most pristine and remote waterways, engaging intimately with breathtaking landscapes and marine life.

Exceptional Seabourn Crew: Creating Memorable Moments

What always stands out most on Seabourn are the exceptional crew members who are attuned to anticipate guests' needs and take care of the details that matter, but in a warm, unassuming way that creates a relaxed, luxurious experience. The gentle rustle of staff moving efficiently through spaces, combined with the soft murmur of "Good morning" using your name, creates an atmosphere of effortless luxury.

The crew draws from truly global backgrounds, and it's such a pleasure hearing their stories of life at home and their experiences around the world. Being greeted by your name with a welcoming smile, being escorted to your table and brought your favourite beverage without asking, receiving a black napkin to match your dark outfit, or taking a few moments to share the excitement of a wildlife viewing—all of these details and more make the voyage special and create those Seabourn Moments that remain in your memory long after the voyage has ended.
